Clues that deserve attention
- A persistent musty odor with no obvious source
- Past plumbing or roof leaks
- Soft, swollen or stained drywall
- Recurring mold at the same wall or ceiling area
- Moisture readings or condensation around a concealed cavity
Why not tear into the wall immediately?
EPA guidance says that if you believe you may have hidden mold, consider hiring an experienced professional. Disturbing concealed mold can release material into the occupied space and may make containment more difficult.
Focus on the moisture source
Any plan should address why the cavity became damp in the first place, not only the visible evidence at the surface.
